I've started the long weary search amongst the hundreds of thousands of articles on the web to find a technique for
- a pure CSS popout menu - which will work _fully_ with Internet Explorer - with the same results as with other browsers - which I can adapt and rewrite myself to suit my needs rather than use a WSWIWYG program - which validates, and - which is free. Firstly, does such a technique exist? Or should I look for a combined CSS and javascript technique? Secondly, could some kind soul point me to a few options to review? Please don't refer me to Eric Meyer's pure CSS menus; he admits himself that they do not work fully with Internet Explorer. Regards, Alex |

Have you looked at SuckerFish?
http://htmldog.com/articles/suckerfish/dropdowns/ It does use a little JavaScript for IE, but that is needed (at least for IE6). |

Thanks, Pandy.
No, I've not looked at it yet, but it's on my list - it's referred to in Elizabeth Castro's book which I use a lot. If I can't find a pure CSS solution that's where I'll go first. Regards, Alex |

You can't if you want it to work in IE6.

Go see at CSSPlay, some are claimed to be cross-browser and pure CSS.

Thanks to you both. I've been to CSSPlay, and all I could find was something with required the download of a free javascript. It looked very impressive, but I think I'll stay with the Son of Suckerfish.
I think I'm quite close to adapting it to do what I want. Regards, Alex. |

If you want to stick to Son of Suckerfish, that's ok.
Nevertheless, have you seen these: http://www.cssplay.co.uk/menus/dropdown.html (horizontal) http://www.cssplay.co.uk/menus/flyoutt.html (vertical) |

Thanks so much, Frederiek. No, I hadn't seen these. They look very impressive.
I've downloaded the page and will certainly try the vertical layout out. Regards, Alex |
